About Athens

Athens was a big surprise when I arrived there. I really loved the neighbourhood of Plaka, which made me think of the cycladic islands. Athens is a really cosmopolitan city with many different neighborhoods to visit. The beaches of Athens are not so good, as they are really crowded and constructed. There are so many historical sites to visit, I strongly advise to go hiking on Mount Lycabette.
First of all, Athens is a European capital with a relatively young population and warm, friendly inhabitants. Most people speak English very well, so there's no problem here. We arrived in the capital in February, and to tell the truth, it's best to travel well equipped with warm clothes, as winter is pretty cold. Athens is a very green city, with many well-kept parks. The cost of living is around 30% lower than in France, which is a real plus compared with other destinations such as the Nordic countries.
Athens is a very dynamic city. There are many things to visit (The Acropolis, the museums, the Anafiotika districts...)! It is best to walk around the city with friends. It is not easy to find places to run in Athens without a car and without pollution. If you like running, it is better to have an accommodation near a park.
Definitely a beautiful city! My favorite places to watch the sunset were the Acropolis and Lycabettus Hill.
